Description

This stylish ice blue metallic road bike is a product of Rossin, formerly the senior frame builder for Colnago before he established his own brand in 1974. This is one of the earlier Rossin frames, the markings on the rear Nuovo Record derailleur suggesting it dates from 1975. Nice details include the seat stay caps, which are embossed with the Rossin script, and the sloping fork crown with its double pentagram engravings. The tubing is of course Columbus. The paint and decals have survived very well indeed given the age of this attractive machine.

The typical ensemble of Campagnolo components have been given some extra flair with painstaking pantography, milling and painting. Diamond motifs adorn the seat post, brake callipers and brake levers, and the Cinelli stem has been doubly milled along the shaft. This fine workmanship is brought to the fore by subsequent detailing with blue, red and yellow enamel. Record low flange hubs are laced to bright aluminium Nisi rims, wearing Clement CF2001 pale sidewall tyres. Cinelli Giro d’Italia drop handlebars have been wrapped in fresh black cloth tape, and the unscratched brake levers have been garnished with reproduction pale rubber hoods. The saddle is the original Unicanitor, in black leather, and is absent any blemishes. There is provision for one water bottle cage on the down tube, and the bike comes with a lovely period extra; a simple black cage containing a white plastic water bottle printed with a red Rossin graphic and the former address of the Milano bike shop, No. 8 via XXIV Maggio, Cavenago Brianza.

When we initially inspected this bicycle we were delighted to discover that it required very little attention to make it absolutely roadworthy. We needed to do little more than freshly grease all the bearings, fit new brake and gear cables and outers, inflate the tyres, and this time warp racer was once again ready to roll in fine style.
