Very limited edition, gold plated Guerciotti ‘Oro’ road bicycle. These frames were created to commemorate the release of the Campagnolo 50th Anniversary group set in 1983, and then assembled with a custom tuned version of the Super Record group set. This is one of the lightest bicycles currently in the shop, weighing in at 8.3kg without pedals. Take a close look at the photos – every component has been milled, shaved and subtly customised to be as elegant and lightweight as possible.
The ‘Oro’ frame set was one of the finest available at the time, with internal shifter cable routing through the down tube. The rear derailleur cable emerges from the very end of the drive side chain stay, while the front comes out through the left chain stay. External cable routing also possible if preferred, as the guides are still present on the bottom bracket shell. These frame sets were gold-plated, and the main tubes also plated in what the seller told us was platinum. Unfortunately I have no way to verify this, but I also have no reason to doubt them. It has a very fine brushed finish, not dissimilar to stainless steel or titanium, but with a peachy colour under warm light.
Campagnolo Super Record crankset, 170mm, with Guerciotti pantographed chainring. The spider has been milled out at an angle, and the arms have been rounded off before polishing. A subtle effect, but it makes the original Record crank-arms looks almost unfinished by comparison. Super Record bottom bracket in almost unused condition, with lightweight titanium spindle and the correct size ball bearings!
Wheelset: original 36/36 hole Campagnolo Record hub set, laced to ultra-lightweight NISI Sludi 290 polished silver rims. These were the rims to have in the late ’70s, and are remarkably lightweight at only 290g per piece. Hub bearings are in as-new condition, turning extremely smoothly with no play. Rims likewise, running very true and will undergo a further check before shipping. Rims have been carefully polished until they shine like new. Quick release levers have been drilled to save further weight without compromising clamping force. Clement Criterium Servizio Corse tubular tyres are in good condition and retain pressure well.
Original Campagnolo Super Record front and rear derailleurs, both in excellent working condition. Black anodised Campagnolo down tube shifters – the upper side has been ground down to half its original thickness and then pantographed with the Guerciotti star logo. 6 speed Regina Oro screw-on freewheel in great condition, with original Regina Oro Record chain. Chain in almost-new condition, with next to no wear.
Customised brakes and levers, both original equipment. Levers have the Guerciotti logo and Italian flag, and the brakes themselves have a smoothly-milled section that follows the curve of the arms. Spindle nuts have been replaced with recessed titanium hex bolts. 3ttt Superleggero handlebar with gently curved Gimondi bend, and pantographed 3ttt Criterium stem. Aluminium Campagnolo Super Record headset. Black Benotto bar tape. 27.2mm Super Record fluted seat post, with Guerciotti pantographing. Custom lightened Selle San Marco Concor saddle, with the excess material at the sides carefully carved away.
The bicycle is overall in excellent condition, especially considering its age. There are a few spots where the gold has sadly flaked off, but no apparent rust. Frame and fork are free of any cracks or dents, and all components work well. All bearings in good condition with no roughness or play. Very suitable for any Eroica-style event! We’ve set the bike up according to our taste, with a view to preserving the classic look and style. In saying that, if you would like to make some small changes (saddle, bar tape etc), then often this is possible. We have a large inventory of classic components acquired over the last 13 years and are happy to do our best to accommodate any request.
