Original 1983 Colnago ‘Super – Saronni’ road bike, completed with a Campagnolo Nuovo Record/Super Record group set, light weight Concor saddle, 32 hole Mavic rims. Paint and Colnago decals are all original. Few bicycles have influenced the cycling scene as much as the Colnago Super. At a time when racing bicycles were typically heavy, Ernesto Colnago released a responsive light weight frame set which would become a legend in cycling history and one of the top models of his 1970s and 1980s catalogues – the Colnago Super. Made of Columbus SL steel tubes, with a shorter, stiffer and lighter frame. The Super frame, designed for high performance, was much copied by the industry. This particular edition of the Colango Super commemorates Giuseppe Saronni, who became World Champion in 1982 on a Colango Super and dominated the Racing Scene in early ’80s.
The bike has seen a few races, it has some patina that has been retouched, but has no technical damage like cracks or dents. Front and rear derailleurs are Campagnolo Nuovo Record and the rest of the group set is Campagnolo Super Record. The skin rubber brake hoods are reproduction items. Brake and shifter cables are new. Saddle is an original Selle San Marco Concor in Italian leather, chosen to suit the age and style of this bicycle. Headset is a Stronglight and the bar and stem are 3ttt. Finished in elegant red with white and black decals, the paint is still in good condition with only a few bigger scratches on the top tube, and a couple of chips. All chrome is bright and intact. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like more pictures!
Wheel features a pair of low flange Campagnolo Chorus hubs laced to dark anodized Mavic GP4 tubular rims, 36 front / 36 rear with rare Gommitalia Champion tubulars. It is possible to exchange the wheels for a similar set of clincher rims if you prefer. Let us know and we can organise something for you. All in all, a top quality, professional grade racing bike with no dents, cracks, rust or any other technical problems. This bike meets the entry requirements for any L’Eroica-style event.
