1984 De Rosa Professional. The top of the line from the Cusano Milanino factory that year. The frame and fork are constructed from Columbus SL, and without pedals this bike weighs in at a mere 8.9kg. The frame is painted in a rich dark red, with a chromed lower stays and rear drop outs. It is paired with a fully chromed raked fork with a sloping crown. The frame is finished with an eye catching decal set with pale yellow lettering and bold diagonal stripe designs. Both the paint and the decals have faired very well indeed until today, with only a very few minor scuffs and nicks.
It is equipped with the finest components available in the mid ’80s, comprised of a Campagnolo Super Record group and Cinelli 1R stem and Giro d’Italia drop handlebars. These have all been refined with additional De Rosa pantographed details. Especially nice are the down tube mounted shifter levers. The engraving work has all been detailed by hand with enamel paint. The 170mm crankset wears a 51 tooth outer ring, spinning 6 close ratio Regina Oro gears via a Sedis chain.
The wheels are 32 hole Super Record low flange hubs laced to bright anodised Martano rims, and have been tied and soldered for increased strength. The pale sidewall tyres are by Vittoria.
We deliberately refrained from breaking out the polish and rags and buffing this bike to a showroom gleam. It wears an authentic layer of road dust, grease, grime, sweat and tears, acquired over many miles on sunny summer days in central Europe. Authentic Italian patina. This bicycle has been properly looked after and kept in top condition, and rides very nicely indeed. We had to do little more than repack all the bearings with fresh grease, fit new cables with white outers and a fresh wrap of black textured bar tape, and wipe a little dust off the dimpled black leather Selle Italia Turbo saddle. It’s ready to race.
