Professional quality road racing bicycle, as produced by the Patelli brothers’ family business based in Bologna, Italy. Patelli is one of our most favoured frame builders here at Cicli Berlinetta and they consistently display workmanship above and beyond that of their competitors. Check out the creativity at the fork tips and rear drop outs. The finely filed lugs and the delicate fork crown. All this at the beginning of the 1970s, when very few frame builders were producing work of this high calibre.
The Frame set
This particular frame set came to us directly from Patelli, built with Columbus SL tubes and after some careful cleaning and polishing, we set about building it up with a matching and period-correct Campagnolo Nuovo Record group set from approximately 1972. Stem, seat post, shifters and the larger chainring have all been milled and filled to save weight. Cinelli bar and stem, with double old ‘knight’ logos.
The Components
Cable and bar tape are new, as are the Campagnolo-branded replacement rubber hoods. All bearings have been cleaned up, reinstalled with fresh grease, and carefully adjusted. Tyres are NOS Hutchinson Shark Cross 30mm, which we selected with a view to being perfect for both the cooler weather and the gravel roads of L’Eroica events worldwide, satisfying both the regulations and spirit of the ride.
The bike is generally in good condition with some small rust spots on the frame and a little on some of the components where the chrome has worn away. The water transfer on the left side of the down tube has a small scuff. In general it feels straight and sound, and in opinion with a little sensible care should go on to provide a lot more enjoyable riding to come.
