Dating from approximately 1971, This bike is a fine example from the time when Falerio Masi had reached the peak of his profession, busily making a name for himself as one of the worlds top frame builders and bike fitters. Each Masi creation represented a considerable investment, sized to fit the rider perfectly. As a consequence they were mostly treated with respect, handled with care and maintained properly to last a lifetime of careful riding.
The Gran Criterium model was created especially for rough and fast criterium racing, as evidenced by the geometry. This particular model was previously owned by a German former professional road racer. It is in very sound condition, especially when taking into consideration how old it now is.
The paint has just a few scratches, and some steel is visible under the bottom bracket. We’ve decided to leave it in its original condition rather than touch it up. The down tube Masi decals are in good condition, and the bike is very tidy overall.
The group set is in fine order, and everything operates well. Components have been left original where possible, with just a couple of small tweaks. Drilled Campagnolo Nuovo Record derailleurs, in great condition.
Campagnolo Record brakes, with matching drilled levers. Brown rubber hoods in great condition. 120mm Campagnolo Record hub set laced radially to clear anodised Fiamme Ergal tubular rims. 1960s Cinelli 40cm c-c aluminium bar and a Cinelli 130mm stem. Campagnolo Record 151 BCD crankset.
Chainrings have been coloured up in the style of the era. Campagnolo seat post with polished top and yellow flutes. We’ve set the bike up according to our taste, with a view to preserving the classic look and style. Having said that, if you’d like to make some small changes (saddle, bar tape etc), then often this is possible. We have a large inventory of classic components acquired over the last 13 years and are happy to do our best to accommodate any request.
