Description

This red Gianni Motta Personal road bike dates from 1980. It is constructed from Columbus SL tubing. The two top tube lugs have been files to very sharp points, and the same treatment has been given to the down tube head lug. The brick red paint shows very little scuffing and scratching for its forty years, and the yellow decals are similarly intact. The frame has chrome rear drop outs, and is matched with a sloping crown Motta chromed fork.

It is assembled with a selection of Campagnolo components, mostly Nuovo Record, with the exception of the hubs and the brake levers, which are Super Record. The brake levers were fitted with new rubber hoods. The 170mm chainset features the Gianni Motta name pantographed on either crank arm, and drilled out chainrings. The brake callipers have been treated to some nice hand machining, and are now adorned with Italian stripes and the GM logo, picked out in coloured paint. The Cinelli quill stem has a milled slot on the top, and sports the Gianni Motta name pantographed on either side plus the GM logo at the front. It clamps a matching Cinelli Giro d’Italia drop handlebar wrapped in fresh black cloth tape. The rider will perch upon a nice black leather Italia Criterium saddle mounted on a Nuovo Record set post with the Gianni Motta logo and additional fluting at the front.

The small flange 36 hole Super Record hubs are laced to Fiamme Red Label rims with a bright silver aluminium finish. The wheels wear pale sidewall Continental tyres for the correct period aesthetic. The headset, bottom bracket and hubs have been refreshed with new grease. This time warp bike rides very nicely indeed.
