Description

Gianni Motta Pursuit Pista complete bicycle, made in Italy from top-quality Columbus Air tubing. Gianni Motta were known for their innovation at the end of the 1980s, pushing the envelope in terms of frame design. There is very little clearance on this particular model – it was designed to be as tight as possible. An 18mm Wolber front tyre just fits in the fork, demanding that the wheel be totally true. This particular bicycle came to us from a German ex-professional rider, who used it only in the velodrome. Frame set is from the late 1980s, and I believe it was built up in the early 1990s.

The frame set is in excellent condition, and we have tried to keep the bike as original as possible. The only alterations are a rear 700c Mavic disc wheel professionally painted in gloss black. Disc wheel in in great condition with no cracks or gouges. Front wheel is a Campagnolo C-Record Pista ‘sheriff star’ hub laced to 650c Mavic tubular medium profile rim. 28 flattened aero spokes, laced radially. Front wheel is also in great condition, running true. 1980s Columbus Air tube set, with its instantly identifiable, teardrop shaped aerodynamic profile. Proprietary Air seat post, with Gianni Motta pantograph. Lightweight Selle San Marco Titanio 2000 saddle (titanium rails). 167.5mm C-Record Pista crankset, with 50 tooth Campagnolo chainring. 15 tooth Dura Ace NJS cog. C-Record Pista bottom bracket with aluminium cups. 3ttt 51.151 bullhorn pursuit handlebar, with 120mm Motta pantographed 3ttt Criterium stem. NOS white gloss Benotto bar tape. 1″ threaded Super Record Pista aluminium headset. Vintage Sedis track chain.

The entire bicycle is in excellent condition, having been only ridden in the velodrome. All components work as intended, and
there are no dents or cracks in the frame set. There are very few of these bicycles in existence, and this is the only one we
have seen to date.

We’ve set the bike up according to our taste, with a view to preserving the classic look and style. In saying that, if you would like to make some small changes (saddle, bar tape etc), then often this is possible. We have a large inventory of classic components acquired over the last 15 years and are happy to do our best to accommodate any request. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you would like any more specific photos!
