Description

Oscar Simonato is one of countless small frame builders from Italy who had a deep understanding of his craft. He made his frames in small series in Montebelluna just north of Trevino. These days his son runs their small bicycle shop in Montebelluna, Italy. Regretfully he did not follow in his fathers footsteps and master the art of bicycle frame building. The example offered here is in first class condition. Especially beautiful are the fully chromed seat and chain stays. The frame is soldered together using high quality Columbus SL (superleggero) tubes with Campagnolo dropouts.

The bicycle represents the very high end of what was possible “back in the day”. It features one of the first examples of concealed internal cable routing, and other aerodynamic features. To suit the high level of the frame the bike has been equipped with a Campagnolo Super Record custom group set. Camapgnolo Record hubs have been highly polished, re-greased and built with dark anodised Wolber clincher rims. White leather saddle comes from the legendary Italian manufacturer San Marco, producer of top quality components that remain extremely sought-after to this day. The Supercorsa Concor is one of the most beautiful vintage bike saddles out there. Also most noteworthy are the customized, black anodized pantographed stem, seat post and chainrings.

Freewheel is from Regina, 12-18T ‘big legs’ split, in great condition with lots of life left. The gears are crisply operated by the superlative Super Record rear derailleur. Overall the bike is in top condition, showing little signs of use. All components are in great condition and are fully functional, ready to ride. There are a few minor scrapes to the paint that appear to be from storage rather than abuse. No dents or cracks. Tyres, cables bar tape are new. Wheelset can be exchanged for an equivalent set of tubulars if you prefer.

We’ve set the bike up according to our taste, with a view to preserving the classic look and style. In saying that, if you would like to make some small changes (saddle, bar tape etc), then often this is possible. We have a large inventory of classic components acquired over the last 13 years and are happy to do our best to accommodate any request. More photos available if you would like some details.
